It’s safe to say McDonald’s isn’t exactly lovin’ how they recently became the butt of a practical joke. A Fake McDonald’s Twitter account has been suspended by the social media service for masquerading as an official Twitter account of McDonald’s Hong Kong — but not before it was able to pull off a prank more than nine months in the making. The people behind the @McDonalds_HK Twitter account — which briefly changed its name to @NotMcDonaldsHK before being suspended — had been posting inoffensive, seemingly genuine McDonald’s-like tweets since October 2016, touting new menu items and promotions that McDonald’s Hong Kong was legitimately offering at its locations. President Trump speaks during a meeting at the White House on Tuesday. (AFP/Getty Images) Holly O’Reilly tweeted a GIF at the end of May to President Trump on his @realDonaldTrump account. The image displayed an awkward-looking moment between the president and Pope Francis with the caption, “This is pretty much how the whole world sees you.” Almost immediately, she was blocked from his account. Moments before the Trail Blazers tipped off against the Warriors in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series Monday, Portland's Twitter account signaled the unlikelihood of the team coming back from a 3-0 deficit by tweeting, "Pride starts now." Actually, what started then was a nearly unprecedented destruction at the hands of Golden State. [Before the series, Damian Lillard said Blazers could beat Warriors, although maybe not in 'six'] Playing with Kevin Durant for the first time since he strained his calf in Game 1, the Warriors blew the Blazers off the court at Moda Center, jumping out to leads of 14-0 and 41-13 before the first quarter mercifully ended with a 45-22 score. Golden State's 45 points matched an NBA playoff record for first-quarter scoring and (according to ESPN Stats & Info) its 28-point lead was the largest an NBA team took in any first quarter this season. Not surprisingly, the Blazers' Twitter account struggled to respond the insta-blowout. It was reduced to … [Read more...] about Warriors 45-point first quarter had the Blazers Twitter account struggling for words
Do you remember what you were doing on Twitter in 2010? Twitter accounts have been compromised by a range of security issues lately — and in at least one case the vulnerability is tied to a decision users made years ago. It might be time to double check how secure your account really is. Early Thursday morning, the official Twitter account for McDonald’s pinned a tweet directed at President Trump. It read, “You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands.” The tweet remained up for about 20 minutes before it was removed. The fast-food giant, of which the president is a big fan, issued a statement saying the account had been “hacked by an external source.” McDonald's tweet Twitter McDonald's removed this tweet directed at President Trump, but it was live for about 20 minutes. Officials are trying to spread the word that school will be open as normal Friday after a fake Twitter account posted Oviedo High would be closed due to violence. The tweet was posted Thursday night on an account that mirrored the Seminole County Public Schools’ official Twitter account, even mimicking the district’s handle @SCPSInfo. A press release was posted to the fake account, @SCPSInformation, that claimed due to the “excessive amount of student-elicited violence,” this week, classes would be canceled Friday. The false release continued with explaining the closure was also due to “multiple rumored incidents” that were “also being monitored.” Both Oviedo High School along with the official account for Seminole County Public Schools posted to Twitter that the school would be open and the account was a fake. America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez are not the same person. The rest of the world knows that, of course, but the Golden Globes' official Twitter account apparently does not. Ferrera joined actors Angela Bassett, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Thursday to announce the nominees for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Ferrera, who won the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical for her starring role in ABC's Ugly Betty, was the first announcer to take the stage at 5:15 a.m. PT. The Golden Globes' Twitter account shared a photo of her at the podium and misidentified her as Rodriguez not once, but twice. The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before a number of Twitter users called the organization out for confusing Ferrera and Rodriguez: PHOTOS: The best moments at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards Mislabeling an actress once? Awkward. Twice? Inexcusable. (That's America Ferrera, not Gina Rodriguez) … [Read more...] about Golden Globes Twitter Account Misidentifies America Ferrera as Jane the Virgin Nominee Gina Rodriguez
That's basically what everyone thought, said out loud and/or tweeted when Pharrell Williams hit the red carpet at the 2014 Grammys. It kind of looked like a Canadian Mountie hat, if a Canadian Mountie hat was about 92 percent larger and 81 percent poofier. Hey, if he wins, at least he'll have a place to put that Grammy trophy. He could probably fit six of them in there. And because we live in the world of the Internet, not more than 30 minutes after Pharrell made his walk down the carpet with his date the hat, someone made a Twitter account for that thing on top of his head. Appropriately titled Pharrell Hat, its first tweet was just a simple "hey," but then the hat really committed to its new social media empire. And it will be an empire. Does this mark the end for the Jonas Brothers? Their official Twitter page was deleted late Wednesday night sparking a fan frenzy that the band broke up. As of now, fans receive the following message when they visit the account: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist! Thanks for noticing—we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon." And while the band's page seems disabled, all three of the Jonas' individual accounts remain active and public. However, the guys have been fairly quiet as of late. Joe Jonas hasn't tweeted since Oct. 8, while Nick and Kevin Jonas last took to Twitter more than two weeks ago. The mysterious Twitter disappearance comes only a week after the boys announced that they were canceling their tour.
