The 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles just further bolstered their offense. The Eagles traded for Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi on Tuesday before the NFL trade deadline, reportedly in exchange for a fourth-round pick. The trade boosts the Eagles running game, which is 15th in the league with 4.2 yards per carry and adds depth to go along with LeGarrette Blount. The Eagles had shown interest in running backs to help with their pass blocking, and reportedly reached out to the Colts regarding veteran Frank Gore on Monday before making a deal for Ajayi. Ajayi, a 24-year-old fifth-round pick out of Boise State, has somewhat struggled this season with pass blocking and is averaging just 3.4 yards per carry. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase had also expressed frustration with the offense in recent weeks, calling out his players earlier this month and threatening to replace them if they cannot get the job done. Ajayi has also reportedly been … [Read more...] about NFL trade deadline: Dolphins trade Jay Ajayi to Eagles

So much for all that Eric Weddle talk. The NFL trade deadline passed at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and the Giants, as expected, stood pat. There had been talk of the club acquiring safety Eric Weddle from the Chargers, and there were rumors that Bears outside linebacker Willie Young, a pass rusher, could head to East Rutherford. But neither move happened. Weddle stayed put in San Diego, and there was little indication that the Giants made it deep into trade talks with the Chargers. Weddle, 30 and coming off an All-Pro 2014, is in the final year of his deal, so had the Giants advanced in the trade process, they would almost certainly have wanted to gauge their chances of signing him long-term. RELATED: ON NFL TRADE DEADLINE DAY, LOOKING BACK AT BIG MOVES It all leaves the Giants right where they started, with a defense that's surrendering a league-worst 427.5 total yards per game, coming off a Sunday loss to the Saints in it allowed an embarrassing 608 total yards. The club must now pin its … [Read more...] about Giants stand pat at NFL trade deadline, don’t get Chargers safety Eric Weddle
The NFL trade deadline has long been synonymous with disappointment. Big names are almost always tossed around, but they rarely get moved. The 2015 deadline has proved similar — NFL.com cited players like Matt Forte, Jay Cutler and Calvin Johnson as possible trade bait — but we'll have to wait until 4 p.m. on Tuesday to see if any rumors become reality. Unlike the deadlines in other sports, which occur later in the season and allow teams to bolster their rosters for playoff runs, prior to the 2012 season it was decided that the NFL deadline would be placed on the first Tuesday following Week 8. That change three years ago pushed the deadline two weeks later in the season, but it has yet to make any significant impact on blockbuster deals. FOLLOW THE DAILY NEWS SPORTS ON FACEBOOK. The NFL trade deadline is October 31, but don’t expect a flurry of moves as teams try to improve their rosters for the home stretch. There will be some from rebuilding teams looking to jettison veterans in favor of draft picks and salary cap space, but most teams will stand pat. Count the Titans among the latter group. There are a couple big names floating around at the deadline that could theoretically make sense for Tennessee. Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant appears destined for the trading block. He’s a 6-foot-4 speedster at wide receiver that would add an explosive element on the perimeter that the Titans have been missing. However, Titans rookie wide receiver Corey Davis can also be that player. He’s been hurt since Week 2, but it looks like he’ll be ready after the bye week. The return of Davis makes Bryant less useful for the Titans. Not to mention it would put Bryant in a crowded receiving room, and his reason for wanting out of Pittsburgh is a lack … [Read more...] about Don’t expect Titans to be active at the NFL trade deadline
PHILADELPHIA – There are typically very few trades made at the NFL trade deadline, unlike the other professional sports where big names often change teams for a playoff run.Last season, there was only one trade made the day of the deadline, and only a few others in the days before. But the Eagles could make a deal by the deadline on Tuesday. After all, they are 7-1, the best record in the NFL after their 33-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.Whether they do or not could depend on how the Eagles value their chances to win now compared to their long-stated goal of building for the future. So would they go after someone like 49ers left tackle Joe Staley, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, to fill the void left by Jason Peters, who's out for the season with a torn ACL? Or perhaps another starting caliber tackle, such as Houston's Duane Brown or Buffalo's Cordy Glenn? There have even been rumblings that the Eagles might try to lure Detroit Lions wide … [Read more...] about As trade deadline nears, could Eagles go for ‘Megatron,’ a left tackle?
The NFL trade deadline changed in 2017. It’s no longer a meaningless date on the calendar, the equivalent of National Pistachio Day.The Seahawks upgraded their offensive line. The Bills and Eagles bolstered their playoff chances. And when the transactions were over, Valley football fans had yet another reason to fret:The NFC West has three teams with franchise quarterbacks under the age of 30. None of them play for the Cardinals. “We try to address it every year,” Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. “People just keep trading up in front of us.” RELATED: Next Cardinals QB? Options for ArizonaIf a discouraging 3-4 start wasn’t bad enough for a disgruntled fan base, the Cardinals lost another battle during their bye week, watching the 49ers acquire Jimmy Garoppolo for a second-round draft pick. The move could have serious consequences for a franchise that hasn’t drafted a functional quarterback … [Read more...] about Bickley: As NFL trade deadline passes, Arizona Cardinals still searching for QB of future

This column has been updated for content and tense to reflect that. With the Cincinnati Bengals clinging to their playoff hopes at 3-4 and in need of improvement across several offensive areas – should they have made a deal? It's easy to say yes. The Enquirer had learned the club wasn't really interested in making a move – even along the offensive line, but the Bengals had the necessary resources to do so.According to the National Football League’s Players Association (NFLPA), the club has just over $11.8 million available in cap … [Read more...] about Why the Cincinnati Bengals did not make a move at the NFL trade deadline
A look at who came out ahead — and who didn't — following the NFL's 2017 trade deadline, which passed Tuesday afternoon: WINNERS Russell Wilson: No one is going to confuse newly acquired LT Duane Brown with Seattle Seahawks legend Walter Jones. But three-time Pro Bowler Brown, 32, instantly becomes the most accomplished lineman to ever block for Wilson, who's suffered at least 40 sacks each of the previous four seasons. Brown, who only played one game for the Houston Texans this year — Sunday in Seattle, ironically, after a holdout — should also upgrade the Seahawks' 21st-ranked run game and will likely find his outspoken personality is a better fit in his new locker room than the previous one.Buffalo Bills fans: The prospect of reaching the playoffs for the first time in the 21st century grew even brighter as the Carolina pipeline spit out more help, this time in the form of WR Kelvin Benjamin, who addresses one of the few glaring deficiencies … [Read more...] about NFL trade deadline winners and losers: What’s Jimmy Garoppolo’s fate?
No one epitomizes a midseason adjustment quite like Duane Brown.A week ago, the Pro Bowl left tackle was getting ready to play in his first game of the season with the Houston Texans after holding out since the start of training camp over his contract. Now Brown, traded on Monday, is adjusting to a new city, new playbook and new teammates with the Seattle Seahawks.Shoot, there was even the matter of flying to Seattle for Sunday’s game – he knocked off the rust by playing 68 offensive snaps – and returning the next day after flying back to Houston. It’s no wonder that Brown told reporters, it has been “a bit of a whirlwind of a week.” More: NFL trade deadline winners and losers: What's Jimmy Garoppolo's fate?
