Steve Rogers is apparently catching some flak for his role as steward of America. French director Luc Besson, whose latest film “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" hit theaters last month, spoke with a Brazilian journalist about an increasingly familiar term in the film industry: superhero fatigue. Besson lambasted Hollywood’s portrayal of Captain America, saying that the superhero genre always attempts to bolster America’s standing on the world stage. Besson went as far as to call Captain America “propaganda.” “I’m totally tired of it, totally. I mean, it was great 10 years ago when we saw the first ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Iron Man.’ Now it’s like, number five, six, seven,” Besson said. “The superhero is working with another superhero, but it’s not the same family. I’m lost.” “What bothers me most, is that it’s always … [Read more...] about SEE IT: Director Luc Besson labels Captain America U.S. ‘propaganda’
Captain america 75 heroic years
Captain America doesn’t shy away from any villains — Ku Klux Klan leaders included. Superhero actor Chris Evans took on former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke in a blistering Wednesday night Twitter war following the Senate confirmation of Jeff Sessions as the next U.S. attorney general. “If David Duke....DAVID!...DUKE!... thinks you’re right, then you are unequivocally wrong,” Evans tweeted. “The confirmation of @jeffsessions is beyond words.” Duke, who had showered Sessions in praise earlier in the evening, responded with an anti-Semitic outburst. “Typical dumb actor — if everything I say is wrong, then when I say I oppose these Zionist wars, you must be for them, Captain America!?” the fervent President Trump supporter tweeted. Evans fired back a heroic response linking to a laundry list of racist and homophobic statements Duke has made over the years. “Well if these nuggets of … [Read more...] about ‘Captain America’ actor Chris Evans rips ex-KKK leader in Twitter war over Jeff Sessions confirmation
Warning, This article contains spoilers from "Captain America: Steve Rogers" #1. Turns out some of you were rooting for the wrong side in "Captain America: Civil War." Marvel Comics dropped the ultimate nerdy bombshell with Wednesday's release of "Captain America: Steve Rogers" #1 — the star-spangled hero turns out to have been a double agent for the nefarious Hydra all along. Flashbacks show he was recruited by the bad guys before World War II, back during his childhood in New York City — before he took the super soldier serum that transformed him into the hero fans thought they knew and loved since 1941. "This is not a story where Steve is twirling a mustache and cackling loudly as an obvious villain," writer Nick Spencer told the Daily News. "He's very much a wolf in sheep's clothing. That's the real challenge for me. He has to appear to be heroic while at the same time advancing Hydra's aims." Though it will likely turn out to be the … [Read more...] about ‘Captain America: Steve Rogers’ shocker turns Marvel hero into…what the?!?

Strapped to a four-point harness and suspended 15 feet off the ground, actor Anthony Mackie briefly felt like he was flying on the set of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” — costumed as the heroic Falcon. But that feeling was quickly replaced by panic as the stunt crew hoisted him up 70 feet and let go. “I was supposed to land next to Chris Evans and take three steps before I ran into a parked van,” Mackie told the Daily News from the stable perch of an eighth-floor balcony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “I’m coming in and I’m looking at Chris and he’s looking at me like ‘Dude, you’re going to die.’ The fear in his eyes made me freak out. . . . I couldn’t stop. I knocked Chris over and just smashed into this van.” The 35-year-old product of the Juilliard School may not have stuck that particular landing, but he’s in rarefied air as a major milestone … [Read more...] about Anthony Mackie flies high as Falcon in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’
Jeremy Renner wondered what he had gotten himself into. Weeks before the cameras began rolling on “The Avengers,” the actor found himself in a stunt dojo on the film’s Albuquerque, N.M., set with his co-star Chris Hemsworth swinging on wires high overhead. Around the same time, he watched an enormous stuntman, clad in a green, bubble-wrap "Hulk" suit, lumber by. Renner had been around movie shoots for a long time but had never seen anything like this. “I was in training, watching Hemsworth flying around with his wire, coming smack down on the shield of a stunt guy — which was actually a trash can lid,” says Renner, who plays the titular team’s archer, Hawkeye. “This is happening in this big stunt gym and he’s flying around. I’m doing these stunts with Scarlett [Johansson], rolling around shooting arrows. “I’m like, ‘This is really weird, this is really happening.’ ” 'THE AVENGERS' … [Read more...] about The Avengers assemble: Marvel’s master plan to bring Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor together on screen is finally here
Now that's a heroic feat! In a new photo from "Captain America: The First Avenger," Chris Evans' chest appears to have ballooned to twice its normal size. This is the first time the 29-year-old actor, who is not averse to removing his shirt (see "Cellular" and "Fantastic Four"), has revealed the fruits of his extensive workouts for the new superhero franchise. Evans recently told ew.com that he decided to increase his muscle mass after fans responded to him being cast by saying he needed bigger muscles. The "Losers" star reportedly worked with a personal trainer in order to bulk up his biceps and flatten his abs. Director Joe Johnston is set to use various camera angles, costumes and special effects to reduce the actor's size for scenes in which he plays his scrawnier human alter ego, Steve Rogers. Evans recently revealed that he wasn't sure he wanted to join the "Captain America" franchise and turned down the role three times. "I remember telling a buddy of … [Read more...] about Chris Evans’ ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ muscles make Human Torch look like a shrimp
Captain America is making a miraculous recovery. Two years after Marvel Comics knocked off its famous star-spangled superhero, he's gonna be back and better than ever. "The original Captain America is finally coming back," Marvel Comics editor in chief Joe Quesada told the Daily News. "We've been patiently planning for this moment for 21/2 years." Captain America will return next month in a five-comic book series, "Captain America Reborn." The dramatic return is coming not a moment too soon for fans of the superhero and his alter ego, Steve Rogers. Marvel writer Ed Brubaker was stunned at the global reaction when Captain America was gunned down on the steps of a courthouse. "It was crazy," said Brubaker. "I had shock jocks calling me up at 5:30 in the morning - they got my home number somehow - and they were like, 'Ed, tell us it's not true, tell us Captain America is not dead.'" It's been 68 years since creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby introduced Rogers - a … [Read more...] about Captain America, a.k.a. Captain America is back and he's packing heat. Less than a year after the legendary star-spangled superhero was killed off in his comic book, his former teenage sidekick is being promoted to fill those big red boots in the latest issue, out Wednesday. Fans were devastated when Steve Rogers - a 1941 creation of artists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby - was gunned down on the steps of a courthouse last March. It was the industry's biggest shocker since Superman temporarily went up, up and away to the great Fortress of Solitude in the sky in 1992. Many pundits believed the death of a character draped in the American flag was a thinly veiled political allegory. "It's an experiment," said Marvel Entertainment editor in chief Joe Quesada. "Every day, every story, I'm ready for backlash." There's bound to be a backlash when fans see Bucky Barnes, the new Cap, toss the famous shield and whip out a firearm. "It's a little jarring for some people to see that," said … [Read more...] about Captain America lives again
Captain America is dead! Click here for the photo gallery! The Marvel Entertainment superhero, created in 1941 as a patriotic adversary for the Nazis, is killed off in Captain America #25, which hits the stands today. As Captain America emerges from a courthouse building, he is struck by a sniper's bullet in the shoulder and then hit again in the stomach, blood seeping out of his star-spangled costume. His death is sure to ignite controversy in the comic book world - still reeling from Superman's death in 1993 and resurrection the following year - and even political pundits, who may see Captain America's demise as an allegory for the United States. "It's a hell of a time for him to go. We really need him now," said co-creator Joe Simon, 93, after being informed of his brainchild's death. Simon and artist Jack Kirby came up with the character in 1941 as an adversary for Adolf Hitler, who was more evil than any villain the pair could dream up. Since then, the patriotic hero has … [Read more...] about Captain America killed!
